As the Sustainability Lead for Business for Impact, I am in charge of bolstering campus-wide sustainability efforts through initiatives that engage the community at large. I am currently in the midst of organizing Georgetown’s first-ever campus-wide clothing swap as part of a three-pronged fashion sustainability event that also includes a sustainability-themed speaker panel as well as a secondhand fashion show. My experience as a fashion blogger and secondhand clothing business owner throughout high school has forced me to reckon with the environmental devastations wrought by the fashion industry. Once I arrived on the Hilltop this past fall, I knew I wanted to make an impact in the realm of sustainability, which is what drew me to work with BFI in the first place. My hope is that sustainability will remain a steadfast part of my efforts, academic and otherwise, throughout college and beyond.
